Manchester City and Spain midfielder Rodri has confirmed he will attend the Ballon d’Or ceremony despite knowing he will miss out on the award.

However, after news broke that the Brazilian international would miss out on the award, Los Blancos, including Vinicius, immediately canceled their trip to Paris, with reports that he was very disappointed. Meanwhile, Spanish media reported that a grand party had been planned, but had to be canceled as well.

“When your value is recognised at such a high level, whether you win or not, it’s nice to be here,” Rodri told France Football.

“There are also important aspects. For example, Erling (Haaland) was in a better position than me to win the award last year. I want to come and support him in this special moment.”

“Knowing how to win is important, but knowing how to lose is also important. And this year, with my injuries and my recovery, this event was a breath of fresh air. So when I decided to come, I really wanted to enjoy a great night.”

Asked about Vinicius’ decision not to attend, Rodri said: “What do you want me to say? I want everyone to come? Of course I want that.”

“No. 2, No. 3, No. 4 and many more have disappeared… I respect everyone’s decision, even if I don’t do the same.”
